Thank you to all of our students, staff and families who joined us for the ANZAC Day March yesterday morning. We were honoured and privilieged to lead the schools section of the March.
A special thank you also to our Defence School Mentor Mrs Maree Brennan for organising such a special commemorative celebration here at school on Friday.

I am currently undertaking interviews for prospective 2024 Prep students. If your child is due to start Prep in 2024 or you know of a child who is, please be sure to submit an enrolment application as soon as possible. Senior Playground and Playspace Near Shelter Shed
An annual inspection of our Senior Playground last week identified some areas that need maintenance. For this reason our Senior Playground will be closed until further notice. We anticipate having this maintenance rectified as soon as practicably possible,
The playspace near our Shelter Shed will be completed in the coming weeks with artificial turf being laid by external contractors.
NAIDOC Week Deadly Day Out
As part of our NAIDOC celebrations this year , we are hosting our first ever Deadly Day Out right here in our school grounds. This event will be held on Wednesday 19th July and is a FREE community event. We are also inviting family members/friends to be a part of this special day.
Do you know anyone in your family or a friend who has a special skill (boomerang throwing, didgeridoo playing etc), interest/talent (weaving, cooking, art) or willing to share knowledge of any sort through art, story sharing? If so, these contributions would mean a lot to us. If you would love to be a part of these celebrations or know someone who might, please let us know and we can pass on your information to the team.
Enjoy the rest of your week and your long weekend.

Eastertide
We are currently in the Liturgical season of Eastertide, it is the time of new life. Eastertide is the period of 50 days, spanning from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. It is celebrated as a single joyful feast, called the "great Lord's Day". Each Sunday of the season is treated as a Sunday of Easter.
The Easter season continues for 50 days, through the Ascension of Our Lord to Pentecost Sunday, seven full weeks after Easter Sunday! Indeed, for the purpose of fulfilling our Easter Duty (the requirement to receive Communion at least once during the Easter season), the Easter season extends a bit further, until Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost.
We are now in the middle of the Easter Season, and our focus at this joyful time continues to be
the Risen Lord who passed on from the darkness of the grave to the brightness of the new
supernatural life, that does not know end. What a beautiful truth we believe in. Yes, we all must
go through rough times in this imperfect universe. And it can be seen more clearly at this time; that is why Easter comes to remind us that our faith tells us that no virus or any other power has the last word, but our Lord Jesus Christ, who has already destroyed death through his death; the
spectre of death the worst enemy of our humanity could not get hold of him. Let us keep praying
for those who have died in these terrible times, for those who are sick, those who are working to
keep the country running and those who want to keep everybody safe. Prayer that this time is a
wonderful weapon against the obstacles we are faced with daily.
CONGRATULATIONS
A big congratulations to our students that have received their Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist this week, The children all did a wonderful job and I felt very proud watching them receive their sacraments and being fully initiated in the Catholic church. (We will have photos in next week's newsletter). Congratulations to Kelly, Punapa, Dante, Calum, Harriet, Averley and Georgia on receiving your sacraments.

Friendships and Belonging
“I don’t have any friends!” “Nobody likes me!” “They’re not my friend any more!”
If your child has ever come home and said this, you will know how heartbreaking it can be for a parent. It is really common for parents and carers to worry about their child’s friendships, and the urge to jump in and “fix things” can be strong, but what is the best way to respond?
According to SchoolTV’s Friendship and Belonging edition, the best initial reaction is to listen to how your child is feeling, rather than jumping right into problem-solving mode. They advise that in this instance what children need first, is for their loved ones to understand how they are feeling.
SchoolTV also advises friendships are full of ups and downs and it is better for children to learn how to manage and build their own friendships, even though as an adult carer you may be tempted to interfere. Friendship issues are one of the most common student issues teachers and the leadership team deals with, with conflicts arising because students want to be friends, they no longer want to be friends, struggle to deal with sharing friends, or listen to and spread gossip and innuendo. Add social media into the mix and the issues multiply!
It is not always easy for children and teenagers to know how to manage friendships. Learning how to make new friends, and keep them, involves a number of skills every young person needs to
understand and develop.
For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different
friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be
much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly
beneficial to a child’s wellbeing.
SchoolTV’s “Friendship and Belonging” that offers practical information and strategies for navigating a host of friendship issues. Including coping with cliques, whether they have “enough friends”, being a good friend, and a parent’s guide to toxic friendships.

Compost:
Compost is decomposed organic material, such as leaves, grass clippings, and kitchen waste. It provides many essential nutrients for plant growth and therefore is often used as fertilizer. Compost also improves soil structure so that soil can easily hold the correct amount of moisture, nutrients and air.
