From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust you all had a restful and relaxing Easter break.
Staff Update
This week we welcomed two new staff to our Good Shepherd Family - Mrs Zoie Howard (2B Teacher replacing Ms Amanda Marshall as she heads off on Maternity Leave) and Ms Emily Hodder (2C Teacher replacing Ms Jamie-Lee Wyness who handed in her resignation at the end of Term 1). We also congratulate Ms Amanda Marshall on her marriage to Luke over the holiday break.
ANZAC Day
We are excited to be leading the Thuringowa ANZAC Day March on Tuesday 25 April. Students who would like to march with us must wear their academic uniforms, black shoes and school hat and meet at the Weir School Carpark at 8:30am.
We will also be hosting our own ANZAC Day Liturgy this Friday 21 April from 8:40am in the BBC. All are welcome to join us. Thanks in advance to Mrs Maree Brennan for organising this event for our school community.
Cross Country/Fun Run
Our annual Cross Country/Fun Run is on this Friday. It will commence after our ANZAC Day Liturgy on the Big Oval (at approximately 9:15am). Parents and friends are welcome to join us.
Absence
I will be absent on Thursday and Friday this week attending Queensland Catholic Primary Principals Association (QCPPA) Meetings in Brisbane. Maxine Nolan and Rebecca Kershaw will be contactable during my absence.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

Sacramental Programs
This week, a group of our GSCS students will participate in the Sacramental Retreat Day at Ryan Community Centre in final preparation for receiving their Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion. This day will give them an opportunity to reflect on their preparation so far and are invitations to them to come away and encounter Jesus. Children who are preparing to receive Jesus in the Sacraments also need this time to be “away” so that their hearts can be ready for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. We hope you enjoy this special day.
PARISH MASSES
Classes will continue to take turns participating in fortnightly Friday morning Masses. This participation gives more of our students an opportunity to experience Mass in a parish setting.
Each Mass takes place at 10am on Fridays in the Community Centre. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Celebrating Mass together is a great way to build community!

Week 1 Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break and took the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, relax and recharge.
Coming back to school can be an exciting time for students (and their parents!), but the transition from holidays to school can also be challenging.
To help the transition, it is important to re-establish routines such a set bedtime, eat healthy nutritious meals and have a morning routine that ensures students arrive at school on time. Tips to help include:
* Set up a routine and stick to it! Make sure everyone involved knows what the routine is. Write it out, or draw pictures, showing what is required and when, then stick it on the fridge.
* Do what you can the night before: Prepack lunches, lay out uniforms, make sure the school hat is in the school bag.
* Get enough sleep: Establish bedtime routines, such as have a shower, brush teeth, read a book together, lights out.
* Make a family commitment to be on time: Being on time is a combined effort. Model the behaviour you want to see: if you complain about getting out of bed, don’t be surprised if the children do too.
* Have a no distractions policy: Once you are ready to walk out the door, including bag packed and shoes on, then you can watch TV, draw a picture or read a book.
* Wake up earlier: If you need to get the children up at 7am, but you need 30 minutes to yourself before that, get earlier yourself so that you feel organised.
* Don’t hit the snooze button: Pushing to get that extra five minutes of sleep can mean you start your day rushing.
* Have a place for all your “out the door” essentials: Keep keys, wallet, phone, sunglasses in the same place so they are easy to grab on your way out.
Franki was excited to be back at school
on Monday morning. She spent time
in the Shed before school and visited
some classrooms to hear students reading
before having a quick break outside with Teddy.

What's Happening In Prep
Prep classes have really enjoyed participating in our P-2 Deadly Learner sessions. Last term, students learnt about the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander flags. They learnt what the different colours represent and the history of the flags in Australia. Deadly lessons are usually taught in individual classrooms, however, we decided to join together to learn about the Aboriginal flag as a cohort. We collaboratively created our own flags to display in the classroom and reflect on our learning.
Thank you to our Deadly Learners and team, who teach their interesting lessons each fortnight!
