Swimming Results
Thank you to all families and friends who supported our swimming carnival last Thursday. Stuart were our overall winners with Bohle taking out the Spirit Award. Thanks again to Ms Foord for organising this wonderful event for our school community.
On Monday our swimming team competed in the Interschool Swimming Carnival and finished third overall. Well done students! Thanks to Ms Foord, Ms Ellis, Mrs Sallaway and all families and friends who also attended and supported our team.
Principal Meetings
This week I have been attending Principal Meetings. Our agenda has included topics around inclusive education, school improvement, learning and teaching, staffing and resilience. I will return to school tomorrow.
Prep Open Day
We will be holding a Prep Open Day for prospective 2024 Prep students on Tuesday 21 March. This is an opportunity for prospective students and families to explore our Prep area, meet our staff and participate in a range of activities. If you have a child commencing Prep in 2024 or know of someone who does, we look forward to having you visit and spend time with us on the 21st.
Fun Run Fundraising
Information about our upcoming Cross Country and Fun Run is making its way home this week. We are continuing to fundraise for a covered area in our Stop Drop Go area. We raised just over $20,000 in 2022 and are hoping to match that or beat it in 2023 so we can complete this project.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

Laxmi lives with her mother and siblings in Jajarkot, one of the least developed districts in the remote Karnali province, with almost half of the population living below the poverty line.
Tragedy struck when Laxmi was 10-years-old. Her father, who worked hard to pay for his children’s education, passed away. Laxmi was devastated. She used to love to go to school but for the first time she stopped attending her classes.
Before her father’s passing, Laxmi joined a child's club at her school that was run with the support of Caritas Nepal, through the Nepal Livelihoods and Resilience Program. Child's clubs support students to develop their speaking, writing and leadership skills through extracurricular activities.
Thanks to the support of her child's club, Laxmi was encouraged to resume her education. She
became an active member of her child's club, where she developed the skills and confidence to
become a leader, advocating for clean water taps at her school.

What's Happening In Our Year 1 Classes?
Year 1 have had a fantastic start to the year! We have settled into our new routines and have been working hard in Numeracy and Literacy.
Numeracy
The students have been recognising, modelling, reading, writing, and ordering numbers to 100. We have enjoyed participating in hands on activities, number games and songs. This week we have begun exploring shapes. Over the next few weeks, we will be recognising and classifying familiar 2-dimensional shapes and 3-dimensional objects in our everyday surroundings. We are looking forward to becoming shape investigators and finding various shapes around our school environment.
Literacy
The students have been demonstrating their fabulous phonemic awareness and are practicing blending and segmenting phonemes to read familiar and unfamiliar words. We have been applying this learned knowledge when writing sentences about various topics we are focusing on. Through our focus on fairy tales, we have been sequencing stories and making short oral presentations. Students have been showing active listening skills and turn taking when asking questions.

Government Collection of Student Address Data
The Student Residential Address and Other Information Collection (Address Collection) is used and combined with other data to calculate a non-government school community’s capacity to contribute to the costs of schooling. This can influence the level of Australian Government recurrent funding for non-government schools. The information is also used to inform Australian Government school education policy.
Please see the notice of this below:

Pesticides in the Garden
If you must use pesticides in the garden, opt for those made from natural ingredients, such as pyrethrum. Birds, frogs and reptiles can become sick or die if they feed on insects sprayed with pesticides.
