Last Friday we held our Opening Year and Leader Induction Liturgy. Amber Ellis (School Captain), Adam Jensen (School Captain), Kailey Wise (Bohle Sports Captain), Layne Ketchup (Bohle Sports Captain), Scarlett Egan (Ross Sports Captain), Connah Moore (Ross Sports Captain), Ferisita Perez (Stuart Sports Captain), Joeviah Morgan-Tapau (Stuart Sports Captain) were presented with their leadership badges.

A huge thank you to Fr Dave for presiding over our liturgy and to Mrs Kershaw for organising such a beautiful celebration. Thank you also to Aunty Dulcie and Arika Appleby for joining us and presenting our Year 6 Deadly Learners with their badges.

Staff Update

Pam Mennell finished with us last Friday. We were anticipating Pam would finish with us at the end of the term but due to other circumstances, she finished on Friday. We thank Pam for all of her contributions to our Good Shepherd Family and wish her all the best in the future.

Tonight we will be holding our Parent Information Night. Session 1 will be held at 5:00pm and Session 2 will be held at 5:30pm. These sessions will be held in your child's classes. We look forward to having you join us at these sessions.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM 2023
RECONCILIATION – CONFIRMATION – HOLY COMMUNION
Congratulations to all those children who have enrolled to make the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist this year.  Kathy, from the Parish Office has emailed parents/carers notifying their Group Leaders, day, time and location for sessions.  The program starts next week; parents are to meet their Group Leader at the allocated session day, time and location to collect the student book for Reconciliation. If families do not know which group, day, time and place to meet please phone Kathy at the Parish Office: 4723 9844.
Thank you to the teachers who have volunteered to lead the groups.

PARISH MASS

Friday 17th March at 10am
Good Shepherd Community Centre
Prep A and 4/5A will be attending.
Parents are also welcome to attend

Morning Supervision / Shed Expectations
I would like to share a reminder with all parents and caregivers about our expectations for students in the morning during supervision from 8.10am. It is expected that ALL children are to be seated either on the silver seats or the ground in the shed in the morning. If Running Club is on, then they are able to attend this, provided they are wearing their school hat.

We welcome any parents who arrive with their children during this time and stay for the morning assembly. We kindly ask that if you are in attendance, you help support us by reinforcing to your children or any children with you that they must be sitting also.

We appreciate your support in helping us make our students' morning safe and settled.

Naplan
Naplan will be held in Term 1 this year, starting on March 15 (week eight of school).  All students in Years 3 and 5 participate in Naplan. There are four tests, for writing, reading, conventions of language and mathematics. Writing must be conducted on the first day of the testing period (March 15) and is paper based for Year 3 students only. All other tests, including Year 5 writing, are conducted online via the Naplan Secure Browser. Tests take no longer than 50 minutes and we schedule only one main test session per day. Students requiring catch-up tests may need to complete more than one a day, however there will be a significant break between tests.
If you have any concerns about Naplan, please speak to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Parents can choose to withdraw their children from some or all of Naplan, however you must complete a form for this to happen. If your child is away on the day and has not been officially withdrawn, they will be required to complete the test during a catch-up session.

Franki Reminder

Franki, our wellbeing dog, will be visiting every classroom starting this week. If your child has an allergy or phobia to dogs, please advise the classroom teacher via email, fill in the form attached or email Mrs Nolan at mnolan@gstsv.catholic.edu.au

Compass Parent Portal
All new families and those who have not accessed the Compass Parent Portal before should have received an email last week with your log-in details.  If you have not received the email, please check your “junk” email folder. It is important that you have access to Parent Portal, as this is the only place your child’s school reports are published to.
The Parent Portal also allows you to:
•    View your child’s timetable and the school calendar
•    View up to date attendance information for your child
•    Enter details of upcoming absences or explain past absences or late arrivals for your son or                  daughter
•    Make bookings for Parent Teacher Interviews
•    View a news feed of school announcements, alerts and updates
•    Provide consent for school events/excursions
•    Communicate by email with your child’s teachers
•    Update your contact details (email and mobile phone number).

The parent portal is a web-based system that can be accessed by clicking here. It is available under the parent tab on our school home page.
An app called Compass School Manager is also available for both iPhones/iPads (via the App Store) and Android phones/tablets (via the Google Play Store). When you have installed the app, search for “Good Shepherd Catholic School – Rasmussen”.
The browser version of the Parent Portal contains more features than the app.  The Compass website has an online guide and video for the Parent Portal at https://www.compass.education/guide.

What's Happening In Our Year 2 Classes?

Year 2 have spent the first two weeks of school learning about the GSCS way, routines and expectations. They have enjoyed getting to know each other and their new teachers and have settled in well to their new classes.
2A listened to a story “I wish that I had Duck Feet” by Dr Seuss, about how having extra things might seem like a wonderful idea, but in the end just being themselves is the best. They created artworks depicting the crazy extras from the book and wrote sentences describing the best things about themselves.
2B investigated patterns and number sequences on the 100s board, and made interesting creations using tangrams during maths rotations.
2C spent time getting in touch with nature, cutting and mixing and making potions, preparing for the upcoming Science unit on mixtures.
Everyone is looking forward to a wonderful year of fun and learning ahead.
