From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to Week 2 where we are commemorating and celebrating NAIDOC Week. A special thank you to our Deadly Team of Emma, Melisia, Marita, Adeleah and James for organising some wonderful activities for our students this week. We began the week with a Flag Raising Ceremony. Thank you to our parents Chloe, Richie and Amber for joining us to raise the Torres Strait Island, Aboriginal and Australian flags.
Each lunchtime the Deadly Team have also organised activities for our students. Tomorrow we will be holding our NAIDOC Week Liturgy (please note this is now in the BBC and not the Community Centre) and on Friday our students will be treated to an Arts Council performance by Dion Drummond.
This week we also have nine students participating in Mulkadee, a week long Arts event for students in Years 5-12 from across all of our Townsville Catholic Education schools. Thank you to Ms Saskia Brown for accompanying the students for the week. The event culminates in a concert on Friday night at the Townsville Entertainment Centre.
Next week we will be celebrating Catholic Education Week and will also have a number of students competing in the Challenge Games. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Pope Francis has proclaimed the World Day of Prayer for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on the 4th Sunday in July each year – July 24th this year. It is marked near the feast of St Joachim and St Anne, the grandparents of Jesus.
Let us pray this Sunday for our grandparents, whether they are with us or not. Let us also pray for the elderly in our society, especially those who feel lonely or are unwell.
Bless My Grandparents
Dear Lord
I pray that you watch over my grandparents.
Please bless them with your love.
May you keep them safe and guard their path and protect them from above.
I pray that they will always know and I can help them see,
just how much I love them and what they mean to me.
Amen
Catholic Education Week
24th – 30th July 2022
Catholic Education Week will be celebrated in Catholic schools in Queensland from 24th – 30th July 2022.
This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is: Communities of Faith, Hope and Love.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
There are 313 Catholic schools in Queensland that educate around 154,000 students and employ more than 22,000 teachers and staff, and most will celebrate Catholic Education Week in some way.
Our school is planning a number of activities during the week including our Catholic Education Week Liturgy on Tuesday 26th July.

Friendships
Friends help give meaning to our lives, fulfil the need to belong, and provide support during tough times. They’re pretty central to happiness and wellbeing. Research has also shown that the better the quality of your relationships, the more likely you are to be happy. When you’re happier, you’re more likely to attract more and better-quality relationships. Seems like one big cycle? It is!
Friendship issues are one of the main causes of conflict in schools. Most of these issues are minor, and quickly resolved by the children involved. Occasionally, adult support is needed. One important way adults can help children resolve friendship issues is by helping them recognise what a good friend looks and acts like and helping them learn how to be the best friend they can be.
According to School TV to have a good friend you must also be a good friend. However, it’s common not to know exactly what to do or how to show friends that you are there for them.
These top tips are a good place to start:
- Listen. Take the time to listen. Try to understand the situation from your friend’s perspective. Ask open questions and make sure your body language is open and relaxed (face them, make eye contact, and nod).
- Get physical. Hugs, smiles or even high-fives are a great way to show you care. Stay in touch. Technology (phones, laptops, and tablets etc.) makes it easy to keep in touch with friends – even if they don’t live close by.
- Tell them how you feel. Every now and then, remember to tell your friends you care about them or appreciate them.
- Be willing to make the tough calls when needed. If a friend does come to you for help, or you think your friend might need help, be prepared to help them seek the assistance they need.
For more information on supporting your child to develop friendships, go to SchoolTV or click on the link below.
Reminders
Just a couple of reminders:
Before school:
- Students are to wait in the shed before school. Supervision starts at 8:10am and children should not be dropped off before that time.
- The GSCS Way states that children waiting in the shed should be seated, not running around or playing games. Parents waiting with their children before school are asked to enforce these expectations with their children.
After school:
- Students being picked up after school are to be collected from the pickup zone only, not the bus zone, the corner, or down the road.
- Parents are asked to wait in the queue and move as far forward in the line-up as possible before children get into the car. Stopping halfway down the pickup zone blocks other parents and slows the process down for everyone.
- Parents who chose to park must walk across to the pickup zone to collect students, not call them across to the car.
Thank you for your ongoing co-operation.

What's Happening In Our Year 3 Classes?
This term in Maths, Year 3 has started looking at 'Chance'. The students have been conducting investigations to understand the chance of something happening. They have made predictions using the words impossible, unlikely, even chance, likely and certain as well as discussing their results and why everyone's results aren't always the same. The students will be completing some more exciting investigations this week.
