From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome back to Term 3. I trust you all had a restful, relaxing and recharging break and are ready for the busyness of Term 3. We especially extend a warm welcome to our new staff - Mrs Jamie-Lee Wyness (Year 3 Co-Teacher), Ms Amanda Christopher (Prep School Officer) and Mrs Adeleah Evans (Year 1 School Officer). We also congratulate Mrs Susan Karambasis (nee Ms Paul in 2B) on her marriage over the break and wish Ms Christie (soon to be Mrs Caitlin Lansdowne) all the best on her upcoming wedding this weekend.
We have a number of events and important dates to mark in your calendars that are taking place this term including:
- NAIDOC Week (18-22 July)
- Mulkadee (18-22 July)
- Catholic Education Week (25-29 July)
- Challenge Games (27-28 July)
- Life Education (28 July - 5 August)
- Book Week Parade (25 August)
- Pupil Free Day (2 September)
- Good Shepherd Day and Rainbow Run (16 September)
You may also have noticed our large sandpit where the junior playground used to be. Townsville Catholic Education required us to remove the playground. Ideally it would have been great to remove the old playground and install the new one at the same time but that was not a decision we were allowed to make at a local level. The new playground is being manufactured and is anticipated to arrive at the end of the term. I have included images of it below. I am confident the students will thoroughly enjoy it when it does arrive and is installed.
Enjoy the rest of your week and go Queensland tonight!

Welcome back! Term 3 promises to be a busy one, with many wonderful opportunities for our students to learn.
The start of a new term, coupled with cold weather, can sometimes make getting children out of bed and to school on time difficult. It is important to remember that attendance on time, every day (except when unwell) is the first step to success at school. If your child is unwell (eg runny nose, cough, upset stomach, vomiting etc) please keep them home.
When they are well, regular school attendance will give your child the opportunity to learn better, make friends, and ultimately have brighter future. Under Queensland law, you must make sure your child of school age is enrolled and attends school all day, every school day unless they have a reasonable excuse. According to the Queensland Government guidelines, Illness is a reasonable excuse for being absent from school but visiting family and friends, sleeping in, looking after other children, minor health check-ups, getting a haircut, shopping, going on holiday, or celebrating a birthday are not reasonable excuses for missing school. Routine medical or health appointments should be made either before or after school or during school holidays whenever possible.
If you are having problems getting your child to school because they won’t get out of bed in the morning, won’t go to bed at night, can’t find their uniform or school bag, haven’t done their homework, are slow to eat breakfast, are watching TV or any other reason, having a set routine can help:
Have a set time to go to bed
Have a set time to get out of bed
Have uniform and school bag ready the night before
Have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
Set a time for daily homework activities, such as reading, sight words or number facts
Speak about school positively
Be firm! Send your child to school every day that they are well, including their birthday and the last day of term!
Remember that every day counts, and that even arriving “just 10 minutes late” can have an impact!

What's Happening In Our Year 4 Classes?
At the end of Term 2 the Year 4 students held a quiz session where they partnered up with family members to share their knowledge about what they had learnt during Semester 1. It was wonderful to see so many family members join the students and put their knowledge to the test.
During Term 3 the Year 4 students will look at the diversity of Australia's first peoples and the long and continuous connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to Country/ Place. They will examine conditions in England and the reasons behind the colonisation of Australia. Students will take on the role of a convict and follow him/her on their journey to Australia.
