From the Desk of the Principal
We are looking forward to our School Photos on Monday. These were originally scheduled in March but due to the amount of illness and absence we postponed them until this Monday 6 June. Please be sure your child is wearing full academic uniform on Monday.
We have been busy preparing the students for our upcoming Athletics Carnival (all ages) and Field Events (9-13 years). Parents and friends are invited to join us on both days. Approximate timetables for the Field Events can be found below and we will be sharing an approximate timetable for the Athletics Carnival next week.
We are in the process of replacing our Junior Playground. The current playground will be removed in the coming days and we are yet to receive a date for the installation of the new one however I can assure you it will be very exciting for our junior students when it arrives!
I am away attending Principal Meetings today, tomorrow and Friday and will be back at school on Monday. Enjoy the rest of your week.

Pentecost
This Sunday, 5th June we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. Pentecost occurred 50 days after Easter Sunday or 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus had already gone back to Heaven so the disciples and new believers of Jesus were waiting to receive the Holy Spirit because that's what Jesus told them would happen. Since Jesus wasn't with them anymore the Holy Spirit would help bring them closer to God.

Just a friendly reminder that your child’s classroom teacher is the first point of contact if you have any concerns about your child at school. Your child’s teacher will be happy to discuss any concerns with you, however, it is important that you make an appointment to do this.
Many parents approach teachers as the bell rings, or when they come to the classroom during school hours to pick up their child. This is not a suitable time for parent-teacher discussions, as the teacher is required in the classroom.
If you would like to discuss your child with their teacher, please email the teacher and arrange a mutually convenient time. Ideally, your email should include what your concerns are, so the teacher can prepare and fully answer your questions. All teacher emails are available on the school’s website under the “About” tab, or by clicking the below link.
SchoolTV: Diet and Nutrition
Drop the children at kindy and school, head to work, pick them up, off to sport/dancing/tutoring, home again for dinner, take the older children to sport/work, back home for showers and bedtime…
Most families with school-age children have very busy schedules, which can sometimes make it hard to sit down to homemade meals every day – especially when there is such an abundance of pre-packaged and processed food.
However, it is still important to teach children healthy eating habits. Diet and nutrition is crucial to your child’s development. According to SchoolTV’s nutritionists, not only can a healthy diet prevent many chronic diseases, but it also impacts on your child’s brain development and learning abilities.
There are many benefits to incorporating a healthy diet and good nutrition. It can stabilise your child’s energy, improve their mood and maintain a healthy weight. Not only will it improve their general wellbeing, but it can also have a positive impact on their mental health helping prevent anxiety, depression and ADHD.
SchoolTV has put together a range of videos and resources on the importance of healthy eating, from a range of specialists including nutritionists, teachers, authors, dietitians, and others involved in researching the links between food and mood.
For more information and resources about a healthy diet, including the importance of breakfast, click the below link or go to the SchoolTV link under the Students tab on our Good Shepherd home page.

What's Happening In Our Year 1 Classes?
We have been very busy in Year 1 this term. The students learnt all about Mini Beasts and their habitats, and then had to design and create a bug catcher. Thank you to all the parents that were able to join us for our Bug Catcher making. The students put a lot of effort into their designs and were very excited to see what minibeasts they caught in their bug catchers. This enthusiasm was then used to write the procedure of making the bug catcher.
Last Friday, Year One’s visited the Community Centre to learn more about the Sacrament of Baptism. Fr Clement walked us through an example of a Baptism to help the students learn what symbols are important in this celebration. The students were excited to share their knowledge and experiences with Fr Clement and their peers.
