From the Desk of the Principal
On Friday we held a private ceremony for our Year 6 Leaders where they received their badges from their parents. Congratulations to our 2022 School Leaders:
School Captains: Paige Wise and Thomas McCall
Bohle Sports Captains: Isabella Power and Kai Craig
Ross Sports Captains: Heidi Grinham and Riley Guy
Stuart Sports Captains: Ava Lucy and Kohen Balderson
We are hoping to hold our Leaders Induction on Friday 11 March where our Leaders will be presented to our community at our first Assembly.
We are anticipating that some restrictions will soon lift and are hoping that we will be able to hold our Swimming Carnival on Thursday 3 March. Permission notes for eligible students have been sent home. More information will be sent home closer to the event once we have some more directives.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM
RECONCILIATION – CONFIRMATION – HOLY COMMUNION Congratulations to all those children who have enrolled to make the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist this year. Kathy, from the Parish Office has emailed parents/carers notifying their Group Leaders, day, time and location for sessions. The program starts this week; parents are to meet their Group Leader at the allocated session day, time and location to collect the student book for Reconciliation. If families do not know which group, day, time and place to meet please phone Kathy at the Parish Office: 4723 9844.
Thank you to the teachers who have volunteered to lead the groups.
The Good Shepherd Way is our Gospel in Action here at Good Shepherd Catholic School. It encourages students to live out the following ten values by thriving to follow the action associated with it:
• Community - I connect and engage
• Compassion - I show care and concern for others
• Endeavour - I challenge myself to do my best
• Hope - I see good all around me
• Inclusion - I involve and accept others
• Justice - I make right choices
• Love - I share my good heart with others
• Reconciliation - I am fair, forgiving and respectful
• Service - I help and respond to the needs of others
• Stewardship - I care for all of creation
Each week we focus on one of these values and an award is presented at assembly to a student in each class who has demonstrated the value that week.
This week we are focusing on HOPE.
‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.’ Romans 15:13

GSCS Way Before School Reminder
Here at Good Shepherd, we follow the GSCS Way positive behaviour support guidelines. These guidelines are based around “GSCS – Give My Best; Show Respect; Compassion and Care; Safe, Responsible and Fair” and are explicitly taught to students.
As part of the GSCS Way, we have behaviour expectations in all areas of the school. In the shed before school, we see some fantastic examples of students following the GSCS Way by:
• Walking to the shed after dropping their bag off at the classroom
• Finding a place to sit quietly in their area (P-2 near H Block Year 3 – 6 Tuckshop end) until the bell rings
• Listening to the staff on duty
• Keeping their hands feet, objects and body to themselves
• Keeping their belongings in their bag at their classroom.
We thank parents for reminding students of these expectations before dropping them at school in the mornings – please keep giving these important reminders! If you stay in the shed with your child before school, please encourage them to follow these expectations too by not engaging them in chasing games, throwing balls, or moving away from the shed area.
Social Media and Digital Reputation
Approximately 81 per cent of parents with preschoolers say their children use the internet. Of these parents, 94% report that their child was using the internet by the age of 4. This might be via a tablet or iPad (92%), a smartphone (85%) or a computer (83%). *
With so many children on the internet, it is not surprising that parents are often pressured to allow their children to have social media accounts. I personally know of children as young as 6 or 7 who regularly use social media, often accessing it via a parent’s phone. However, most social media sites require users to be at least 13 years of age. According to the e-Safety Commission, both the physical age of your child and their level of maturity and resilience can affect their ability to have positive experiences on social media. It is also important that they know how to keep their personal information private, and that they realise the permanency of anything they post online, including comments they may make on another person’s social media post.
To find out more about social media and digital reputation from SchoolTV, the link below. You will also find the link for information about how to determine if your child is ready for social media.

What's Happening In Our Prep Classes?
Prep A has settled quickly into our class routine and enjoyed their time at the Library on Tuesday afternoons, learning about the rules and borrowing. Our focus in Health has been around wellbeing and safety. We have been talking about germs and how to prevent the spread. Each day we do a routine called "catch it, bin it and kill it" where students blow their noses (for hearing health), bin the tissue and use sanitiser. In English, we are learning about words and putting words together to make sentences. Our learning in Maths is around the numbers to 10 and counting forwards and backwards using songs and rhymes to consolidate. We met our PALs on Friday (Play and Learn Year 6 friends) and had our brain break and a play on the equipment altogether. This week we welcomed Mrs Turley who teaches Prep A one day a fortnight. Mrs Turley will teach HASS (History and Social Sciences).
Prep B have had a wonderful time settling into their new classroom and school environment. They met their new teachers, school officers and spent their first week making new friends! Prep B has been busy exploring the school, visiting the library and attending specialist lessons (Music and PE). They love their new playground area and have enjoyed exploring their new play equipment. In class, students have been writing and recognising their name, listening to stories and singing songs. In maths, they have learnt all about the numbers ‘1’ and ‘2’ and enjoyed exploring numbers in many hands-on learning experiences!
Prep C have had a great week settling into Prep and new routines at big school. We have enjoyed the obstacle course and gross motor activities in the outdoor area. Students participated in their first PE and Music specialist lessons. We visited the library and students are eager to go again. Children also had their first experience of rotating to different activities with their fine motor group. Finishing the week with Fantastic Friday was a highlight for many and students enjoyed interacting with the other Prep classes outside and inside with all the doors open.
