From the Desk of the Principal
It was so lovely to finally welcome back all of our students on Monday. Our staff have been ready for weeks so it was wonderful to have the students back too. A warm welcome is extended to all of our new Prep students, students in other year levels, new families and new staff. Welcome to our Good Shepherd Family!
This year we have a few changes to our teacher release time. Our teachers will be released for a day a fortnight for planning and preparation. Co-Teachers will be in the classes on these days. One week Mrs Turley, Ms Paul and Mrs Foster will be in Prep on Mondays, Year 2 on Tuesdays and Year 4 on Wednesdays and the following week they will be in Year 1 on Mondays and Year 3 on Tuesdays. Ms Foord and Ms Brown will alternate between Year 5 and 6 each week on Thursdays.
Unfortunately we are unable to hold our Opening Mass and Leader Induction this Friday. Our school captains and sports captains will receive their badges in a private ceremony with their parents and the Leadership Team on Friday. We look forward to holding the Leader Induction later this term where they will be formally introduced to our school community.
Thanks so much for your continued support and patience as we navigate this unusual start to a school year. Enjoy the rest of your week.

From the Desk of the Assistant Principal Religious Education
Greetings. My name is Rebecca Kershaw and many of you already know me as a Year 6 teacher from the previous two years. I am very excited to be taking on the role as APRE here at Good Shepherd Catholic School community for 2022. I look forward to getting to know everyone at our wonderful school.
Opening Liturgy
Due to continuing restrictions around gathering indoors our Opening Liturgy which was to be held this Friday 11th of February, has been postponed. Our School Captains and Sports Captains will be presented with their badges in a private ceremony this week but will be acknowledged by the whole school later in the term once we can reschedule our liturgy. We will send out further information once the rescheduling has been finalised.
Mini Vinnies
Notes will go home tomorrow with interested Year 5 and 6 students to join our Mini Vinnies Group for 2022. Mini Vinnies is the Primary School section of the St Vincent De Paul Society. A commitment to be involved for the whole year is required by students who wish to join this group. Interested students need to return their permission note as soon as possible.
Breakfast Club
This year the Good Shepherd Breakfast Club will be held Monday - Friday at 8:10am-8:25am in the shelter shed. The Breakfast Club has had a great response from the students and school community. As you know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it helps students to concentrate and focus on their learning. Toast will be available free of charge for all students. The Woolworths at Rasmussen are kindly donating bread for the program on a weekly basis. We thank them for their generosity and support. It would be wonderful if families could assist by donating some spreads for the program (vegemite, jam and honey in a squeeze bottle if possible) this term. These can be left at the Office.

Welcome Back
Welcome back to all our students, families and staff! It is great to see almost everyone back at school, and our school days returning to “normal” albeit with some adjustments for Covid.
With the different start to the year, we can tend to get bogged down in what we “missed”, and in trying to make up for lost time. Rather than lamenting what we didn’t get to do, I prefer to take an “every cloud has a silver lining” approach and think of all the things I did get to do because of Covid restrictions, lockdowns and so on over the past couple of years:
- Completed a course I always wanted to do but never had time for
- Spent quality time with family and friends
- Tried out some new art and crafts (I am not a painter, just by the way!)
- Explored locally, rather than heading away for holidays
- Got to know my neighbours
- Learnt to enjoy down time and just relax.
As we head back to the busy-ness of juggling school drop-offs, work, sports and the many activities families are involved in, I hope you also have the opportunity to reflect on what you have gained during this time.
School TV
Have you explored SchoolTV yet? It is well worth spending some time exploring the site, and having a look at the topics and special reports. New information is also added regularly.
SchoolTV offers parents a fresh approach to the growing issues and pressures faced by Australian youth. SchoolTV is a unique online resource delivering powerful and credible information to empower parents with the skills to address these issues and raise happy, well and resilient kids.
The purpose of SchoolTV is to provide a single resource for parents, about a specific topic, to streamline reputable information from leading specialists. Content is based around major topics of influence and are delivered via a series of videos presented by leading youth health specialist, Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.
SchoolTV is accessible via mobile, tablet and desktop and is designed especially for Australian schools.
Access to SchoolTV is free for parents of students in Townsville Catholic Schools. It can be accessed by clicking the below link, or by going to the school’s home page and clicking on the “Students” tab.

What's Happening In Our Year 2 Classes?
We are so excited to be back at school after a delayed start to our year! This week we have been spending time getting to know each other, making new friends and learning new routines.
Monday morning saw Year 2 start their day meeting their new Music teacher Ms Brown and playing games in PE with Ms Foord.
We have set up our laptops for some online learning. Maths is so much fun playing interactive games with our friends. All the students were introduced to their class Dojos, a fun, interactive class reward system. We have explored the Zones of Regulation and discussed strategies for getting ourselves into the Green Zone, ready to learn.
We can’t wait to get started on the curriculum next week.
