From the Desk of the Principal
Friday was one of my proudest days as Principal of Good Shepherd Catholic School. It was truly a beautiful celebration of our 25th anniversary. I specifically want to acknowledge and thank a few staff who truly made the day a bit more special - a huge thanks to Mrs Bell for organising such a beautiful mass; Mrs Hislop and her band of helpers for organising the wonderful sausage sizzle; Ms Foord for organising a fabulous Rainbow Run; Mrs Sprindzuks for organising the beautiful singing of the Choir; the Deadly Learners for their Acknowledgement of Country; Mr Hills for all of his work in getting the school schmicko, organising the stage, getting the pot area ready and more; Cath Friel for taking some amazing photos that really captured the joy of Friday morning; TCE IT Members Jesse and Tim for their work in livestreaming the event and DJ Mac (Mrs Maccarone) for DJing our Disco. It was extra special to have Fr Dave presiding over our celebration mass and to also have previous Principals Mr Paul Cosgriff and Mr Ed Burke in attendance along with former staff and families of our school. Thank you also to all of our invited guests as well as families who joined us for this special celebration.
Thank you all for a wonderful Term 3. I can't believe we are in the last couple of days but I know there are many students and staff who are keen for the rest. Thank you all for your ongoing support of our school community. I wish you all a happy, safe and restful holiday break and look forward to welcoming you all back to Term 4 on Tuesday 5 October.

25th ANNIVERSARY
Congratulations to all the staff and students who helped with the Mass on Friday. What a great way to start a day of celebrations! Fr Dave certainly set the scene with his giant confetti poppers and Happy Birthday song!
The Good Shepherd Way is our Gospel in Action here at Good Shepherd Catholic School. It encourages students to live out the following ten values by thriving to follow the action associated with it:
• Community - I connect and engage
• Compassion - I show care and concern for others
• Endeavour - I challenge myself to do my best
• Hope - I see good all around me
• Inclusion - I involve and accept others
• Justice - I make right choices
• Love - I share my good heart with others
• Reconciliation - I am fair, forgiving and respectful
• Service - I help and respond to the needs of others
• Stewardship - I care for all of creation
Each week we focus on one of these values and an award is presented at assembly to a student in each class who has demonstrated the value that week.
This week we are focusing on STEWARDSHIP.
“With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” Mark 4:30-32

What if a game of peek-a-boo could change the world?
We often read about the impact on development of spending quality time with our children. There are dozens of articles and research reports, written by psychologists, paediatricians, doctors, educators and so on. We rarely hear from the child’s point of view.
That has now changed, with the production of a fantastic TED talk by seven-year-old Molly Wright, one of the youngest ever TED speakers. Molly asks “What if I was to tell you that a game of peek-a-boo could change the world?”. Breaking down the research-backed ways parents and caregivers can support children's healthy brain development, Molly highlights the benefits of play on lifelong learning, behaviour and well-being, sharing effective strategies to help all kids thrive by the age of five. This TED Talk was produced in collaboration with Minderoo Foundation as an educational tool for parents and caregivers around the world and is supported by UNICEF. Holidays
September school holidays kick off at the end of this week. There are plenty of activities to keep children entertained, but they can play havoc with the budget! Here are a few suggestions of free activities these holidays:
- Picnic at The Strand or Riverway
- Walk or bike ride along Riverway
- Visit the local park and make use of the play equipment
- Feed ducks and turtles at Riverway (corn and peas are great, not bread!)
Free online kids craft and art sessions from Perc Tucker Gallery - please click the below link.
- Local shopping centres usually run free school holiday programs
- Borrow a book from the Thuringowa Library – membership is free!
- Bake a cake or batch of biscuits. Try the 100 cookie recipe (please click the link below)_– only four ingredients, easy to make, and you can add choc chips, sultanas, peanut butter, sprinkles or leave them plain.
I hope you enjoy your holidays, and have the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. See you back at school on Tuesday 5th October (Monday 4th is a public holiday).

What's Happening in Our Year 3 Classes
This term Year 3 have been focussing on learning as much as we can about the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are eight blessings that help us to live life God’s way. Each student got to choose one Beatitude they resonated with and created a peoplescape teaching the school community all about how to enact the Beatitude. We have put the peoplescapes up on the mound in front of the library for this week. Be sure to check them out!
