From the Desk of the Principal
What a fabulous Athletics Carnival we held on Friday! A huge thank you to Ms Foord for organising her first very successful athletics carnival. Congratulations to Bohle who were the overall winners and Stuart who were our Spirit Winners. Well done to all students on their outstanding efforts throughout the day and thank you to all parents who also joined us throughout the day. Thank you also to our Adopt-A-Cop Peter Alexander, our Adopt-A-PLO Chloe Palframan and Mr Chris and the Mary MacKillop kids for also joining us and helping out throughout the day.
This afternoon we held our Semester One Academic Award Ceremony. Congratulations to all students who were recognised for their efforts over the semester and received an award. Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see photos of the winners.
It is hard to believe we are at the end of Term 2 and Semester 1. I truly thank you for your continued support of our school community. I will be absent on Friday attending Stronger Smarter training so will not see you at Assembly or the pick up zone. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a restful, safe and enjoyable holiday break. I look forward to welcoming you all back to Term 3 and Semester 2 on Monday 12 July. Happy Holidays!

Raising Kids
The parent was chatting with God.
“Lord,” began the parent, “I thank you for the gift of children.” God smiled.
“What have you learnt about raising them?” inquired the Lord.
“Oh that’s easy!” replied the parent. “I’ve kept notes!”
The parent shared parenting-wisdom with God.
Don’t work so hard to give them ‘stuff’. The ‘stuff’ that matters is your time and attention.
Don’t worry so much about ‘things’. The ‘thing’ that matter is your time and attention.
Don’t fret so much about organising regimented ‘plans’. The ‘plan’ that matters is your time and attention.
God was impressed.
God knew that the secret to parenting had finally been discovered!
In the end, the parent’s real teacher on how to raise children was…time, or another word - love.
THOUGHTS:
Parenting is not always easy.
Some days are filled with guilt.
Don’t get trapped in guilt; make peace with it.
Other days are seamless, joy-filled experiences.
Celebrate them as blessings.
No matter the parenting-style, God is a support in it all when done with love.
Trust.
PRAYER:
God, we thank you for all the different lessons we learn in life.
Continue to teach us what we need to learn.
Continue to inspire us to keep learning. Amen.

REPORTS
Report cards provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our children’s successes and strengths. The purpose of the report is to communicate how your child is progressing across all Learning Areas, this includes the knowledge and skills they are achieving well, along with areas for further development or improvement.
While the academic mark is important, equally important are the effort and behaviour marks. Helping children grow into resilient, confident young people who connect and engage, show care for others, challenge themselves to do their best, and involve and accept others is the goal of all at Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd Way ticks at the end of the report, along with the written comments, often tell much more of a story than a simple grade can do.
Please take the time to read your child’s report carefully, focus in on the positive and commend your child for these and talk about any areas they need to work on and how you might do this together. Reports were sent home yesterday.
HOLIDAYS
The long-awaited holidays are almost here! For parents, this break from school is often accompanied by complaints of boredom, or a hit on the wallet as the cost of keeping the children entertained quickly adds up.
Not every day of the holidays has to have a scheduled event – it can be beneficial to just spend time at home, pottering around and letting the children entertain themselves. Try building a tent city with sheets, baking a cake, water painting, outdoor play, planting some flowers, doing a family puzzle challenge, having a colour theme for the day, backyard bowling. Remember what you did as a child to entertain yourself, and introduce your children to your favourite activity. If you are stuck for ideas take a look at Kidspot for some inspiration.

Semester One Awards
What's Happening in Our Prep Classes
Term 2 has been a productive and rewarding term for PrepA. As we approached reporting it was exciting to see and hear students sharing their knowledge, understandings and attitudes about the learning they had engaged in over the term. Our Science culminated in creating either a sunny day hat or a rainy day hat (in some cases the creations were both sunny and rainy day hats) and tested it on some unsuspecting teddies, dolls or plush toys. We took them on a picnic and enjoyed looking at one another’s designs and listening to the problem solving process and ideas from each of the class members. In addition, we acknowledged special days such as Sorry Day and shared its significance in our lives today. We hope you all have a safe and relaxing break with your children and look forward to building on the knowledge shown by the students in Term 3. Remember to read to your children whenever you get the chance and spend some time practicing those “tricky” sight words to help make the reading process so much smoother.
Prep B have had a very busy term and it has been very rewarding to see how far each student has come since the beginning of the year. The students are working hard on blending sounds learnt to read simple words and are beginning to know their tricky words. Last Friday after the Preps ran their races at the Athletics Carnival they wanted to draw about their experience. We then decided to add to this by writing about it. All the students worked hard and had a good try at writing a simple sentence about running their race.
Prep C have been working hard to blend sounds together to make words. We have a tree with tricky words on it that we have been learning to read as well. We have been tracing sentences, reading the sentences and drawing a picture to match our sentences. The first semester at Prep has been huge and we have covered a lot of topics. Ethan says his favourite part of school is going on the obstacle course. Arianah enjoys working with letters and words but also enjoyed making patterns. Tui likes playing with puppets during Fantastic Friday. Zeleta-Lei says her favourite thing at school is playing with the dolls. Harrison liked learning about materials in science and making a hat for his teddy bear.
