From the Desk of the Principal
I hope you're all having a wonderful week. I am currently away from school attending a Townsville Catholic Education Walk on Country retreat and do not have access to emails during this time. Please be sure to contact Judy Bell (Prep to Year 2) or Maxine Nolan (Year 3 to 6) with any queries you may have during my absence. Thanks and enjoy the rest of your week.

Congratulations to all our Year 3 and 5 students who participated in NAPLAN last week and earlier this week. All students handled the tests well, and I’m happy to report very few technical issues with the online testing formats. Anyone who was away for the online tests has until Friday to complete them. NAPLAN results will be provided to schools from mid-August to mid-September, and the same report format is used for every student in Australia. The school will notify you when the reports are being sent home.
Last week we were very excited to introduce Franki to the school community. Franki is a 4 ½ month old “Heinz variety” (although the vet thinks Yorkshire Terrier is in there somewhere), and is my pet. She is also a “therapy dog in training” and can complete her formal training when she is 10 months old.
Franki will be at school several times a week, and will eventually accompany me on classroom visits and other activities. Franki and I are a team, and there is no situation where she will be left with children unaccompanied. Having a therapy dog can promote psychological wellbeing, increase social skills, self-esteem and confidence through animal assisted activities.
Before we can fully introduce Franki to students, I need to know if any students are allergic to dog hair, or have a fear of dogs. Please complete the below form and return it to the school if your child has an allergy or phobia of dogs.

What's Happening in Our Year 6 Classes
The biggest news in Year 6 this term is that we have been spending more time opening our classrooms up to work jointly. This work has predominantly been online learning, which allows more time for us as teachers to work one-on-one and in small groups with students as well as providing the students with the opportunity to develop their time management skills by completing a set number of tasks throughout the week. All children have adjusted extremely well to this now environment and already shown an improvement in self management and concentration. The children themselves have expressed how they have enjoyed working with the online content and having the ability to work at their own pace. They identified that they were benefiting from more 1:1 explicit teaching opportunity from their teachers.
This term both classes have also enjoyed some wonderful time learning and playing with their Prep PaL’s. Our Friday visits have allowed opportunities for us to engage in craft activities, peer reading and practicing our turn-taking skills through games. Both classes will be continuing building their relationships with their Prep buddies through these weekly activities.
