Week 8 , Term 2
Safety in the Carparks
There has been a spate of “near misses” in the carpark recently, due to an increasing number of parents/carers behaving unsafely in our carpark, endangering students and others.
Please note the following, all of which apply before and after school, as well as during school hours:
- DO NOT park in the disabled car park at the front of the office if you do not have a Disability Parking Permit. It is there for use of our students and family members who have permits.
- DO NOT park in the Bus Zone in front of the Office/Prep to drop off or pick up children. This area is strictly for use by buses.
- All cars should be entering the carpark from the gate closest to the Community Centre, and exiting via the gate closest to Prep. DO NOT enter or leave via the middle gate, which is designated for buses only.
All students being picked up are required to go to the Drop Stop Go zone – they should not be told to go to the area in front of Prep, nor should they be walking unaccompanied to the dirt area opposite the school, the corner, or along the road for collection.
Parents are encouraged to pull into the Stop Drop Go zone (moving as far forward as possible), collect their children, and drive out. If you park, please walk across to your child – do not call them across the carpark.
The safety of our students – your children – is the priority, and you are asked to follow our
pickup, drop-off and carpark guidelines to help keep everyone safe.

Talofa lava parents, carers and students!
Please see below for what’s happening around our school this fortnight.
Curriculum News 👩🏫
The past fortnight has seen many of our students particpating in a variety of extra-curricular local competitions. The students have worked so hard to prepare for these events, both at school and at home and we are proud of their efforts in representing our school and demonstrating the GSCS Gospel Value of Endeavour – I challenge myself to do my best.
23rd May - Townsville Catholic Schools Spelling Bee at Marian Catholic School
Jade, Olivia, Chanel and Rion competed in the Townsville Catholic Schools Speechmakers competition. All students were outstanding representatives for our school, with Jade taking out third place in the Year 4 competition and Rion placing first in the Year 5 section. Thanks to Mrs Weaver for assisting in preparing the students.
11th June-North Queensland CBCA Readers' Cup Competition 2024 at Southern Cross Catholic College
Readers Cup is organised by the Qld Branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia. It is a state wide competition for young readers. Teams of four to five students read a set of books and then compete with other teams to answer quiz questions from the books. Winners from regional competitions then compete in a state final. Thanks to Mrs Maccarone for assisting in preparing the students.

Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi is a religious Christian feast that was celebrated on Thursday May 30th.
Mainly celebrated by Roman Catholics, the feast occurs in either late May or early June, on the first Thursday after Trinity Sunday (60 days after Easter).
Corpus Christi, meaning ‘the body of Christ’ in Latin, celebrates the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the actual body of Christ during Mass.
In some countries not only is the feast celebrated in mass but they also parade the streets with the consecrated wafer as a public show that the sacrifice of Christ was for the salvation of the whole world.

Environmental Tips
Vinegar is cheap, it's useful, and people have been using it for years. Vinegar kills 99% of bacteria and more than 80% of mold and germs. It's non-toxic, safe, and good for the environment. It's also extremely affordable compared to all the household cleaners on the market. Mix Vinegar with water to make a natural and safe cleaning spray. |
